What is the marine winch

The marine winch is a device which is driven by human or mechanical power, winding rope or chain to complete traction work. This product has high universality, compact structure, small volume, light weight, significant and easy to use. As part of the marine deck equipment, marine winch plays an important role in the operation of the ship. With lifting and pulling function, the marine which is always used on on ship, dock or shore, in the port, on offshore platforms etc. What’s more, it can also bring the fishing nets and cages up from the depths of the sea and onto the deck of a vessel. 

 

Location 

The marine winches are usually mounted on the rear of the deck, and typically behind the control or Captain's house. 

 

Types of the marine winch

A. According to the drive mode, marine winchcan be divided into manual, electric, hydraulic and diesel engine driven type. 

1. Manual winches are generally used in places where the lifting capacity is small, facilities are poor or power is not available.

2. The most common one is electric winch and hydraulic winch. Normally, the marine winch can be designed as electric type if the general rated load is less than 10T.

3. The hydraulic type is mainly a winch with a large load rating. When the load is more than 10T to 5000T then it can be designed as a hydraulic winch.

B. Based on the different quantity of drum connected with each drive device, there have one, two or more drums winch.

C. For different application, the marine winches are divided into mooring winch, Towing winch, anchor winch and accommodation ladder winch.

1.Mooring winch: A mooring winch is one of the marine equipment used during mooring operations to hold a boat in place at a pier or similar fixture. It can operate effectively when dock ship or docking port, and it has many functions. In the process of loading and unloading, it plays the role of drift, support and positioning, and adjusts the deviation of compensation vibration with constant tension. Almost all the vessel should use the mooring, unless some small boats can be stopped by the people.

2.Towing winch: Towing winch is the main equipment for tugboats and tow barges, they are installed on the aft decks. Which is one of the large capacity winches.

3.Anchor winch: When make the anchor windlass and mooring together, it becomes the combined anchor windlass and winch.The combined anchor windlass and winch are usually installed in the main deck of tern or poop deck. The marine combine anchor winch and windlass can be driven by hydraulic or electric motor. It always with one or more drum and gypsy.The above one is single drum single gypsy type.

4.Accommodation ladder winch: Accommodation ladder winch is a kind of short time working equipment mainly used for handing accommodation ladders upon the berthing of the vessel as well as handling the pilot ladders when the vessels enter the harbor.
